Dennis R. McKim

Dennis R. McKim, 77, of Lafayette, passed away at 10:04 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Kindred Hospital of Indianapolis.

  Dennis was born November 7, 1948, to the late Robert McKim and his mother, Naomi (Scowden) McKim.  He was a 1967 graduate of Battle Ground High School.  

  Dennis joined the United States Army on July 19, 1968.  He was a Micro Wave Radio Repairman who worked in communications during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged June 23rd of 1971.  Dennis was very proud of his service in the military.

  Dennis worked in multiple construction trades, including HVAC and electrical, while helping to build new houses.

  In his free time, Dennis loved anything outdoors including bow hunting, cycling and walks in the woods.  He also enjoyed storytelling and spending time with his family.  When little, he taught his boys to shoot bow and arrow at the archery club and took great pride in seeing them outshoot adults.

  Surviving are his children, Aaron McKim and Evan McKim; his mother, Naomi; a sister, Sheralee Formanski (Greg); his aunt, Velma Hall.

  Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Robert and an uncle, Chet.  

  A graveside burial with military rites will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.  Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held that evening at 6:00 pm at the New Apostolic Church, located at 326 Brown Street, Lafayette, Indiana.
