Edward L. Young

Edward L. Young, 82, of Lafayette, passed away at 4:09 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023 after a short hospitalization and stay at Creasy Springs of Lafayette.

  Ed was born February 10,1941 in Lafayette to the late Richard and Elizabeth (Brown) Young and was a 1959 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.

 Ed was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corp.

  His marriage of 22 years was to Nancy M. Caplinger on February 13, 1965 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette; she preceded him in death on April 18, 1987.

  Ed worked for more than 35 years at Eli Lilly; he enjoyed his co-workers and the friendships made during that time.

  He was a member of the Lafayette American Legion Post #11.  Ed enjoyed cars, especially NASCAR and Jeff Gordon and was a member of the local Street Rod and Corvette Clubs.

  Ed enjoyed breakfast with his Lilly retiree buddies and spending time with his grandchildren.  Ed never knew a stranger and would help anyone; he also had a great sense of humor, even a little ornery.  

  Surviving is his daughter, Tina Goforth (Steve) of Greensburg and his two grandsons, Jacob and Travis Goforth.  Also surviving are his siblings, Richard Young (Louise) of Lafayette, Lois Ross of Angola and Jack Young (Sandy) also of Lafayette.

  Memorials may be made to the American Heart, Lung or Cancer associations in Ed’s name.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the American Legion Post #11 in Lafayette, Indiana.
