Ellen's Obituary

Ellen Mucha, 88, of Monticello, passed away peacefully from this life at 1:20 a.m. April 22, 2026, at Monticello Healthcare.

Born on February 26, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lester Erdman and Rose (Putsch) Erdman.

She was a graduate of Horicon High School in Wisconsin, where she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, honoring her heritage with pride.

Ellen was united in marriage on February 14, 1972 to Thomas Mucha. He preceded her in death in 1992. Together they built a family and had one son.

Her journey carried her through many places she called home, including her childhood home of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; a short stay in Valdosta, Georgia; Roselawn, Indiana where she raised her family and ultimately Monticello, Indiana.

In her earlier years she dedicated herself to her work as a secretary. Later she embraced her cherished role as a stay-at-home mother, supporting her son in all of his extracurricular activities. After her husband passed she returned to work, first as a secretary, then as a cleaner in a nursing home. Ellen also spent years volunteering to help the elderly manage their money.

Ellen was a lifelong, devout Catholic and always attended mass no matter where she was. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes in Monticello for decades where she served as a eucharistic minister and sang the hymns enthusiastically.

She was an avid reader, especially of mystery novels. She loved crossword puzzles, word games and playing cards with her family. Ellen took great pleasure in tending to her garden, where she planted lovely flowers, and keeping her yard green and beautiful. Caring for and improving her house brought her joy and fulfillment. She loved watching birds and always kept the birdfeeders in her back yard full. Fitness was important to her and she enjoyed running, biking and taking long walks outside.

She is survived by her son, Terrence Mucha of Indiana, and her siblings, Jack Erdman and Joanne Walling.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with Father Dan Duff officiating.
