Ernest's Obituary
Ernest Stone, 81, of Goodland, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 27, 1945, in Rensselaer, IN, he was the son of the late Adam and Rhoda (Stephens) Stone. Ernest proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana.
On May 11, 1964, Ernest married Susie Hughes in Medaryville, and she survives him. He worked for several years at Better Coil of Goodland, Shoemachers Coil of Rensselaer, and Bonnell Aluminum Factory of Kentland. Ernest had a passion for crafting and fabricating metal cars and trains, enjoyed fishing, and took pleasure in mowing his yard and those of several neighbors. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and took every opportunity to spoil them.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Susie, his son, Ernest A. Stone of Goodland, and his grandchildren: Sabrina Stone, Leanna Clark, Nicolas Harvill, Samuel Banister, and Krysta Stone. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Alexis Stone, Summer Stone, Zachary Stone, Tessa Stone, Jackson Stone, Ryan Durflinger, Ricky Durflinger, Alice Durflinger, and Dante Gray. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Angela England, and his great-granddaughter Addison.
Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Goodland
Ernest's family will forever remember him for his love, dedication, and the joy he brought into their lives.
