Eva's Obituary
Eva N. (Sims) Smith, 92, of Lafayette, Indiana, died on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 9:30 p.m. at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family.
Eva was born on Tuesday, August 18, 1931, in Vernon, Kentucky to John Tol Sims and Savage R. (Crabtree) Sims. They preceded her in death.
On Saturday, March 10, 1951, in the Church of Christ of Lafayette, Indiana, she married the love of her life Robert Dale "Bob" Smith. He preceded her in death on Saturday, December 4, 2020.
Eva was a 1949 graduate of the Brookston High School of Brookston, Indiana. She was a retired bookkeeper at S.S. Kressege and Goddard's Plumbing, retiring in 1983. Eva was a member of the Monticello Christian Church of Monticello, Indiana. She enjoyed fishing with Bob all over the state. Eva was an avid card player. She was known for her and her late husband's pool parties in their Monticello home. She especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and vacationing with family.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Linda (husband Darrell) Higbee of Lafayette, Indiana, and Cathy (husband Gerald) Boler of Spencer, Indiana; six (6) grandchildren, Katie (husband Kyle) Pierce of Rossville, Indiana, Kari Higbee of Lafayette, Indiana, Austin Higbee of Lafayette, Indiana, Allison Slatton of Valparaiso, Indiana, Kyle (wife Cara) Ellerthorpe of Chesterton, Indiana, and Nicole Ellerthorpe of Mulberry, Indiana; seven (7) great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Carter of Monticello, Indiana, and Edith Coleman of Findlay, Ohio.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents John "Tol" and Savage R. (Crabtree) Sims, husband Robert Dale "Bob" Smith, sister, Peg J. Sheehan; brothers-in-law, Richard "Dick" Carter, Richard "Dick" Coleman, and George E. Sheehan.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.
Celebration of life service will be at 1:00 p.m. On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Rev. Leon Hessong officiating.
Entombment graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in the Rest Haven Memorial Park of Lafayette, Indiana.
Memorial donations may be given to the Monticello Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, or can be mailed to 6368 E. US 24, Monticello, Indiana 47960 C/O Smith Family.
