Gary Dale Sammons, 77, of Lake Village, Indiana, passed away on March 26, 2025. He was the son of George M. Sammons and Judy Pickett (Sammons).
He graduated from Kentland High School with the Class of 1966.
Gary served four years in the United States Army.
In his career as a home builder, Gary was a true craftsman, building homes with great quality and care. After retiring from homebuilding, he became an appraiser who was sought after to do work for many customers in the real estate business.
A witty guy with a great sense of humor, Gary is remembered for his fun-loving spirit.
He truly enjoyed musky fishing and the time he spent with family members in Northern Wisconsin. The most special times were the annual family fishing tournaments. Memories were made at the cabin that his grandfather built, where he had spent time since he was a young boy. He was the Sammons family photojournalist, and family members were the grateful recipients of the photographs that he enjoyed making and sharing from these trips.
Gary enjoyed skeet shooting and upland bird hunting with friends that he had known since childhood. He was an avid Corvette enthusiast.
Gary loved photography, computers and all things technology related.
Gary loved his family with a quiet loyalty. He is remembered for his selflessness, generosity, big heart and his resilience-especially his strength in facing Parkinson's disease, which gradually consumed his body. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Gary is survived by his uncle and aunt, Jim and Mary Jane Sammons and his beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jyl Freed, and his uncle, William F. Sammons.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 11, 2025.
In remembrance of Gary, family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Old Colonial Inn, 216 N Third St., Kentland, IN. A cash bar will be available.
