George's Obituary
George William Koppelmann, 81, of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
Born on October 7, 1944, in Long Island, New York, George was the beloved son of the late George William Koppelmann, Sr. and Dorothy (Ostrowski) Koppelmann. His life was marked by service, dedication, craftsmanship, and an abiding love for his family.
George graduated from Clinton Central High School and soon after answered his call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army, where he proudly served.
On October 19, 1968, he married the love of his life, Donna Lynn Hays, in Frankfort, Indiana. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership filled with hard work and devotion until her passing in 2014.
For 30 years, George was a loyal employee of Chrysler corporation in Kokomo, retiring after decades of dedicated work. His hands were rarely still; even after retiring, he and Donna opened a cherished dollhouse shop in Frankfort, where George’s craftmanship and creativity shone for 15 years. Their move to Monticello marked a new chapter, where George continued to work- this time at ACE Hardware, where he joyfully served his community for 20 years, retiring just this past May.
George found great joy in building dollhouses, repairing and maintaining his son’s rental properties, and taking on small projects that kept him active and engaged. He was a man who could fix anything and loved being useful to the people around him.
His memberships in AMVETS, the American Legion and the VFW all of Monticello gave him friendships, camaraderie, and place where he felt truly at home.
Above all, George treasured time spent with his family. He delighted in watching his grandson’s sporting events, sharing stories, lending a hand and offering a warm smile to anyone who needed one.
George is survived by his son, John Koppelmann (wife, Ellen) of Monticello and his grandsons, Colby and Brody Koppelmann of Monticello.
Along with his parents and wife, Donna he is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard and Kenneth Koppelmann and Mary Ellen Walker.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at the Fred L. Miller Memorial Chapel of the Roscka Roth & Clapper Funeral Home, Monticello, from 4:00 pm until the time of services celebrating George’s life at 6:00 pm.
Burial will be held privately at Hughes Cemetery in Monticello.
