George's Obituary

U.S. Veteran

George Peters, 86, of Winamac, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

He was born on August 8, 1938, to the late Edward Otto and Edith Mae (Zeek ) Peters.

George met the love of his life, Dorothy Janet  Wilson while in the Army, they married on February 13, 1965.  She survives in Winamac.

George attended school in Buffalo, Indiana. He joined the United States Army in 1960, serving for 3 years and working as an airplane mechanic and pilot.

George and Dorothy owned and operated their own farm and milked cows for many years. They later opened up a video store in the early 1980’s and then turned it into the Ice Cream Shoppe in Buffalo, Indiana. They both retired from the business in 2018 and leased the business out.

George was a beloved father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother- in -law and friend who loved to be around people, joke around and have fun with anyone he came into contact with.  He never knew a stranger and would do anything for anyone. George loved going out to eat at Wendy’s in Monticello where he and Dorothy created a strong friendship with employees. They also loved going to the bakery in Monticello and Anita’s café in Medaryville.

Along with George’s lovely wife, Dorothy, he is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline S. Starr of  Plymouth, Indiana with her children, Crystal, Brittney Starr (husband, Steven); son, Steven L. Peters (wife, Sherry) of Monon, Indiana with his children, Rochelle Brown (husband, Bobby), Natasha Davey (husband, Virg), Shay Davey (wife, Niedra), Derek Davey (wife, Sarah) Tory Davey and  Shantel Davey (husband, Chris); brother-in-law, Andrew Wilson (wife, Debbie) of New Jersey with his children, Andrew (wife, Lindsey) and Matthew; many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
