James L. Grigsby

May 19, 1950 - September 25, 2023

James L. Grigsby, 73, of Kentland, passed away on September 25, 2023 at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette after a valiant 3-year battle with cancer. He was born to the late James D. and Eula M. (Wilson) Grigsby in Lafayette. He was a 1968 graduate of South Newton High School.

Jim was a United States Army veteran serving from 1969-1971. A lifelong resident of Kentland, he was employed by the United States Postal Service for over 45 years retiring as Kentland’s rural carrier. His dedication to his position brought much joy in getting to know the many customers on his route.

In addition, he had a tree service with John Kline in the 1970’s. Jim with his building partner, Larry Turbyfill, added a housing section to the Town of Kentland known as the Grigsby-Turbyfill addition building the first home in the late 1970’s. He and his wife, Diane, owned and operated Kentland Floral for over 15 years. In the spring, Jim would create beautiful combination flower pots.

Jim did not know a stranger. Always ready to have a chat and learn about people. He thoroughly enjoyed auctions, yard sales, and resale shops. He was an avid lover of nature; especially owls. Recently discovering a love for reading, he enjoyed biographies.

His close knit family will forever miss his love, presence, and vast knowledge of many things. He was always ready to come to the aid of family or even a stranger in need.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Diane (Daniel) Grigsby and their four children: Chad (Lori) Grigsby, Darren Grigsby, Devon (Karl) Elliker, and Ethan Grigsby. Jim loved his 11 grandchildren, Elijah, Madison, Mayah, Drew, Kayliana, Alexis, Izabella, Jordyn, Dorian, Lillian, Gemma. His adoring sister, Karen Dowell; a niece, Cinnamon and two nephews, Robert and Griffin.

Preceding him in death along with parents is an infant brother, Paul Dean Grigsby.
