Jennifer Rochelle Smith

February 19, 1972 - June 10, 2026

Jennifer Rochelle (Overshiner) Smith was born on February 19, 1972, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Kathy (Frank) Lumley and Marvin (wife Kathy) Overshiner of Lafayette. Jennifer passed peacefully on June 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with health complications.

On June 13, 1992, Jennifer married the love of her life, Scott Smith, in Lafayette. He survives. Through their 34 year marriage, Jennifer built close relationships with her sister-in-law Lisa Gillham (husband Mike), late sister-in-law LaDonna Musick (husband Gregory) and brother-in-law Rick Smith (wife Dawn).

Jennifer was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, Mamaw, and friend. She is survived by her three children: Jamie Cook (husband Dexter) of Brookston; Cody Smith (partner: Morgan) of Lafayette; and Brooklynn Smith of Brookston. She is also survived by her sister, Angel Nelson (husband Brent) of Fountain, Colorado.

Jennifer’s greatest joy in life was being “Mamaw” to her twelve beloved grandchildren: Brayden, Brynlee, Tessa, Zaiden, Khloe, Gray, Kinley, Tarren, Saphira, Taytum, Kamden, and Asher. Nothing lit up her face quite like the sound of them walking through the door. She never missed an opportunity to spoil them, cheer them on, hold them close, or remind them how deeply they were loved.

Whether it was celebrating birthdays, sharing stories, Amazon shopping, or simply spending time together, Jennifer built a bond with each of her grandchildren that was uniquely special. They were the center of her world, and she was the safe place they could always count on. Her love for them was fierce, unconditional, and endless.

Jennifer leaves behind a family who will forever cherish the memories she created and the lessons she taught through her unwavering love. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her spirit will continue to live on through the twelve grandchildren who were her pride and joy.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

“Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near.”

A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM (EST) Monday, June 15, 2026 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Please share memories and condolences online at www.clapperfuneralservices.com.
