Joyce Schwier

Joyce Schwier, 92, of Remington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Crown Point, IN at her son’s home. She was born January 27, 1931 in Brook, IN to the late Delbert H. and Hazel M. (Mills) Curtis. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Brook High School.

Her first marriage was to Bernard Laffoon on November 4, 1949. She later married Harry Schwier on August 18, 1961. Harry preceded her in death on December 27, 2019.

Joyce was a member of the American Legion Post 280 Auxiliary. She worked as a telephone operator in Kentland, owned and operated Harry’s Tavern in Remington and Goodland Liquor Store. Joyce enjoyed crafting, spending time with family, and being part of euchre clubs over the last several years.

She is survived by her children, Pamela J. (Ed Bolt) Van DerVeen of Kansas, Steven W. (Sharon) Laffoon of Ft. Worth, TX, Patricia (Charles) McGee of Rensselaer, IN, and Gregory A. (Tracy) Schwier of Crown Point, IN. One brother, Delmer (Barb) Curtis of Mountain Home, AR. Joyce is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband is one sister, Phyllis Malott.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, 10 AM (EDT) at Remington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce’s name to American legion Post 280 Auxiliary.
