Judy Joan Gross

August 21, 1926 - August 15, 2026

Judy Joan Gross, age 99, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1926, in Warren, Indiana, to the late Coburn and Pearl Goodwine. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin “Ted” Gross.

Judy is survived by her seven children: Tom (Chris) Gross, Jeanne (John) Martin, Janet (the late Tom) Wheelock, Ed (Amy) Gross, Bonnie (the late Jim) Gregoire, Christine (Tim) Deely, and Rich (Michelle) Gross. She was a loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Judy married Ted Gross on September 28, 1946. Together, they raised their seven children and operated their family farm in Stockland, Illinois, for 42 years. The farm was more than a place to live—it was where family gathered, worked, laughed, and made lifelong memories. Judy loved watching her children participate in their many activities and took great pride in all of them.

After Ted’s death in 1994, Judy spent the next 30 years of her life in Kentland, Indiana, where she made many dear friends. She enjoyed playing cards, participating in church activities, visits from her family, and, of course, keeping everyone informed of the latest family news as necessary.

Judy was especially famous among her grandchildren for her annual $100 Christmas bill. She was sharp as a tack, quick-witted, and had the humor of a seasoned comedian. Her intelligence, humor, generosity, and love for her family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 409 E. Allen St., Kentland, Indiana 47951. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at Kentland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to The Foundation Fighting Blindness P.O. Box 45740 Baltimore, MD. 21297.

A luncheon will be held following the graveside service at Benton County Golf Course, 602 W. 4th St., Fowler, Indiana 47944.

Judy’s greatest legacy is the family she built, the love she shared, and the many memories she leaves behind. Her family will carry her wit, wisdom, and love with them always.
