Karen's Obituary

Karen S. Perry, 69, of Brookston, passed away at 8:57 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at her residence.

The daughter of James and Patsy Wyatt, Karen was born on February 10, 1956, in Covina, California.   She was a 1974 graduate of East Peoria High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Illinois Creve Coeur Junior College.

On October 16, 1980, Karen married the love of her life, John E. Perry, in Fargo, North Dakota, where they eloped the morning after John proposed.  Together they would spend a lifetime of love and laughter raising their two children, Chris and Courtney.

The couple would move around but eventually settle in Brookston, Indiana in 1993 where they would become an integral part of the small town.  John and Karen owned Ultimate Video in Brookston for over 20 years, and Pizza King for 12 years.  They hosted huge July 4th parties for the community and were active members of the Brookston Lions Club.   One of the kindest people you could ever meet, Karen made it a point to know everyone’s name and welcome them with a hug.  She always tried to be one of the first to welcome new families to town.  Her funny, sarcastic and affectionate personality drew others to her, ensuring she never met a stranger.  She enjoyed golf outings, BINGO at J&J’s, was an avid reader and loved decorating for Christmas.  Above all, Karen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her children, Chris Perry (Brittany) of Brookston and Courtney Williams (Anthony) of Yorktown, IN; her father, Jim; two siblings, Barbara and Michael and her best friend, her dog, Zoey.  Karen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Bentley, Avery and Remington.

Preceding her in death with her husband, John is her mother, Patsy.

A visitation to celebrate Karen’s life will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston.  Per Karen’s wishes, no funeral service is planned.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Brookston Lions Club to support the community she truly loved.
