Kathy's Obituary
Kathy Ione Horn, 72, of Monticello, passed away peacefully at 11:18 a.m. on February 19, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the comfort of the place she loved the most.
She was born on August 5, 1953, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Paul and Luetta (Acheson) Phillips. A graduate of Southwestern High School in Lafayette, Kathy carried her small-town values of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family throughout her life.
On June 30, 1991, she married Gregory R. Horn, in a simple and beautiful backyard ceremony at their home in Monticello. Gregory preceded her in death on December 3, 2023.
Kathy worked for many years at A.O. Smith until it’s closing in 2002, and later at Best Western as a housekeeper. She took pride in her work and in caring for others in the quiet, thoughtful ways that defined her life.
Kathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved browsing the aisles of Dollar Tree, especially when accompanied by her friends. Those little outings were moments filled with laughter, stories and togetherness. She also found peace in planting flowers.
Kathy cherished the holidays and every opportunity to gather her loved ones close. Nothing meant more to her than time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Cottrell (husband, Robert) of Monticello, Michelle Castro of Monticello and Jessica Small (husband, Josh) of Lafayette; one brother, Don Phillips (wife, Sharon) of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Bayli Cottrell (wife, Lexi) of Monticello, Kevyn Castro of Monticello, Ellen Cottrell of Carmel, Jada Butler (Companion, Kyler) of Lafayette and Mirna Lopez of Lafayette; three great grandchildren, Maleni Castro of Lafayette and Taylor and Jordan Cottrell of Monticello; two special nieces, Shari Riera (companion, Marty) of Lafayette and Jodi Eversole (husband, Scott) of Omaha, Nebraska and several other nieces and nephews; two best friends, Denise Caldwell and Connie Tincher and her beloved dog, Choppy-her furry best friend, her pride and joy and constant source of comfort.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Phillips; a sister, Barbara Russell and a niece Terry Woolridge.
Though no services are planned at this time, Kathy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
