Marilyn's Obituary
Marilyn M. Conkright, age 89 of Brookston, Indiana passed away after a brief illness on October 5, 2023, in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Round Grove, Indiana on June 9, 1934, to Dale and Donola Brown, she graduated from Brookston High School in 1952.
Her work life began as a grocery store delivery person for her parents IGA store in Brookston where the telephone number was “eight”. Following a brief stint at Purdue National Bank, Marilyn went to work for GMAC in January 1962 and retired after 30 years in 1992. She married the first love of her life, Roy V. Conkright, in 1954. They raised two children, Doug and Peggy, in West Lafayette. In 1997, she married the second love of her life, John Marvin, of Idaville who also predeceased her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her grandparents Arthur and Luella Brown of Brookston, parents Dale and Donola Brown, of Brookston, sister, Connie Hallam of Kokomo and her brother, Jim Brown of Brookston. She is survived by her son, Doug Conkright (Debbie), daughter Peggy Blue (Glenn), step-son Barry Marvin (Chris), step-daughter Julie Rupert (Dennis), grandchildren, Kimberly Hernandez (Oscar), Nicole Gonzalez (Jose), step-grandchildren Travis Marvin (Hannah), Hannah Henry (Jordan), and Morgan Rupert. She also has 7 great grandchildren.
Marilyn took great pride in meticulously mowing her own yard each season and even helping neighbors mow theirs. She was always quick with a joke, celebrated her “tini” times faithfully, and was keen on bowling, golfing, and euchre. She immensely enjoyed the love and friendship of all the “Benders” on the Horseshoe Bend on the Tippy and was quite proud of her corn hole performance in neighborhood competitions.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of funeral service celebrating her life at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston (101 West 4th Street).
