Marilyn Graves

May 27, 1935 - August 02, 2026

Marilyn Graves, 91, of Monticello passed away peacefully at 5:27 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Monticello Health Care in Monticello.

Born on May 27, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Marilyn was the cherished daughter of the late Chester Gresham Graves and Elizabeth Marie (Roessler) Graves. A proud 1953 graduate of Tech High School in Indianapolis, Marilyn was the youngest and perhaps the most spirited of the five sisters.

Marilyn spent many dedicated years working for Indiana Bell, before retiring. After retirement she happily worked for the Indianapolis 500 gift shop, a place that perfectly matched her love for racing, people, and sharing in the excitement of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

She had a heart that belonged to the water. The lake was her happy place, especially Lake Freeman. Whether she was cruising around in her little boat, soaking up sunshine, or simply enjoying the lake.

Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of laughter, sunshine filled days on the lake, race day excitement, and of course dinner at Riverside.

She was richly blessed with the love of family and friends who became family.

Marilyn is survived by her devoted caretaker and treasured friend, Peggy German of Monticello. Peggy was so much more than a caregiver, she was Marilyns constant companion, advocate, and one of the greatest blessings of her later years.

She is also survived by two nieces, Cathy Sturgill of Port Orange, Florida and Kim Kapps of Evansville, Indiana; one nephew, Geoff Clore of Brownsburg, Indiana and many great nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by four sisters, Martha, Phyllis, Joan and Betty and good friend Gracie Powers.

A moment of remembrance celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 4:00 pm. at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monticello. Family and friends are invited to gather as they share memories to celebrate the joy she brought to so many.

Roscka Roth & Clapper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
