Marjorie Patterson

 

Marjorie I. Patterson, 94, of Monticello, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. 

Grandma was born in January of 1932, and the life she and Grandpa built together grew into something pretty incredible. They raised 10 children, and from those 10 came 16 Grandchildren, 40 Great-Grandchildren, and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren—with 2 more already on the way. And beyond their own family, nearly 200 foster children were welcomed through their doorway over the years.

She worked at Ace Hardware for many years and was accomplished quilter and seamstress. 

Grandpa left us 10 years ago, and now Grandma has joined him. While there is sadness in saying goodbye, there is also so much to celebrate in a life that spanned more than 9 decades and touched more people than we could probably ever count!

So yesterday, we did what Grandma would have wanted us to do. We gathered. We ate. We laughed. We told stories. We went out on the boat. We swam. We spent time with family.

The weekend wasn't what we had planned, but maybe it became something even more meaningful—a chance to be together and celebrate the woman who helped make this very big, wonderfully complicated family possible.

Rest easy, Grandma. Give Grandpa & Jamie a hug from all of us. ❤️

We will keep the legacy moving forward now.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the First Baptist Church (409 S. Beach Dr. Monticello, IN 47960).
