Martha A. Ulyat

November 13, 1939 - June 06, 2022

Martha A. Ulyat, 82, of Remington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Franciscan Health Hospital of Rensselaer. She was born November 13, 1939 in Kentland to the late Virgil Alvora Ballard and Mary Lily (Randolph) Ballard.

She was a 1958 graduate of A.J. Kent High school. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jerry Ulyat. They were married on June 8, 1958 in Remington. Martha and Jerry did everything together. They loved to travel together. Most recently they traveled west to celebrate their 60th anniversary. She worked at Remington Farmers Mutual Insurance Agency for over twenty-five years, where she served as manager for several years. She was also instrumental in starting and operating Ulyat Trucking with her husband Jerry.

Martha was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always ready for a family game. Her son and grandkids could count on a bowl of ice cream, drumstick, or peppermint patty waiting for them on a bad day.

Martha was active in her communities, both in Remington and Lehigh Acres, Florida, where she and Jerry spent the winter months in recent years. She was a member of Remington’s PSI IOTA XI Sorority and the Lehigh’s Red Hat Society in Florida. She was also an avid golfer and member of Hazelden Country Club of Brook.

She looked forward to getting back to Florida after Christmas to host New Years Eve with their friends and play cards. Martha enjoyed their winter home in Florida, golfing, reading, playing cards, and dinner and movies with friends. She absolutely loved when her family came to visit in Florida, where they would regularly go out dancing together.

Surviving along with her husband is one son, Brad (Carla) Ulyat of Remington; siblings, Terry Hafstrom of Kentland and Debbie Hope of California. Martha is also survived by grandson, Bret (Leslie) Ulyat of Remington; granddaughter, Morgan Ulyat of Chicago, IL, and great-granddaughter, Blakely Ulyat.

Preceding her in death along with her father and mother is one sister, Sheila Waibel, and two brothers, Jerry Ballard and Darle Hafstrom.

Friends may call from 9 AM (EDT) until the time of funeral service 11 AM (EDT) Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Remington United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in Remington Cemetery. Pastor Cathi Parish to officiate.
