Mary's Obituary
Mary E. Sterrett, 80, of Chalmers, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Born on May 21, 1945, in Chalmers to the late John and Viola (Holt) Chamberlain.
Mary graduated from Chalmers High School and pursued her passion for nursing at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She married Dennis Sterrett on February 28, 1965, at Chalmers Community Church, and together they built a life filled with love and dedication.
Mary's career in nursing began at Community Hospital of Indianapolis as an Operating Room Technician. She later worked at White Memorial Hospital in Monticello and a private doctor’s office in Wolcott. Eventually, she joined her husband in the White County Surveyor’s Office, where she worked until her retirement.
Mary was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed sewing and caring for her pet cats. She is survived by her husband Dennis, their children Dawn (Ross) Brookshire of Schertz, TX, and DJ Sterrett of Chalmers, and her granddaughter Kaitlyn (Andres) Marin. She is also survived by her brother Herb Chamberlain.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Brittany Brookshire, and her siblings Jack Chamberlain and Sharon Hruban.
In Memory of Mary, a memorial contribution may be made to a local animal shelter of the donor's choice.
