Rebecca's Obituary
Rebecca Cerda Piskula, 62, of Monticello, formerly of Crown Point, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
Rebecca was born on January 14, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony Cerda and Alicia (Hernandez) Cerda. She was a 1982 graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City. Rebecca earned her associate’s degree in nursing from Thornton Community College in 1984.
On September 17, 1988, she married the love of her life, John Michael Piskula at St. Ann Catholic Church in Lansing, Illinois. Together, the couple would share 38 wonderful years.
A devoted nurse, Rebecca, spent her career in nursing caring for others. Rebecca currently worked at Millers Merry Manor in Logansport as a Registered Nurse. Prior to that, she worked for White Oak Health Campus since its grand opening in 2010. At White Oak, she helped take care of the parents of many people in Monticello, all of which she called friends. Prior to White Oak, she worked at Munster Community Hospital for 22 years, serving on the IV team, in pediatrics and the intensive care unit (ICU). Rebecca also worked for Franciscan Hospital in Munster for several years.
Rebecca was a longtime member of Our Lady of The Lakes Catholic Church. A devoted wife and mom, Rebecca loved spending time with her family; Halloween and Christmas holiday parties were always fun. The heart of a caregiver, Rebecca, was very empathetic, forgiving and always full of grace. She and her daughter, Christina, were best friends and she enjoyed trips to Pittsburgh to visit and go shopping; nightly calls to check in and see what’s for dinner were important to her. Rebecca enjoyed planting flowers, fishing trips with her husband and family camping trips all over including going to their camper in Rockville. She truly was a wonderful wife and mother. Rebecca was very excited and looking forward to the upcoming birth of her first grandchild, a little baby girl.
Surviving with her husband John is their daughter, Christina Marie Bennington (husband: Colin) of Pittsburgh, PA; her mother, Alicia Cerda and three sisters, Alice Porwit of Twin Lakes, WI, Elizabeth Borgia (husband: Frank) of St. John, IN and Theresa Arends (husband: Tim) of St. Charles, IL.
Preceding her in death with her father is a brother, Anthony Cerda Jr.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of scripture service at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Fred L. Miller Memorial Chapel of Roscka Roth and Clapper Funeral Home in Monticello.
