Rev. Robert's Obituary
Rev. Robert Joseph Bernotas, 69, of Kentland, passed away at his residence on August 21, 2023. He was born in Clevland, OH on May 11, 1954 to the late Ralph Jospeh and Mary Frances (Schneider) Bernotas.
Rev. Robert was a 1972 graduate of Gilmour Academy in Gates Mill, OH. He continued his education at Case Western Reserve University, St. Charles Borromeo College, and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.
His calling in the church began as a deacon in June of 1982 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Rev. Robert was ordained May 7, 1983 St. Mary Cathedral of Lafayette. He was named pastor of St. Jospeh Catholic Church of Kentland in 1991, St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Goodland 1992, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Earl Park 1996. Rev. Robert retired in 2020 and resided at his home in Kentland.
He is survived by his dear friend, Monsignor Robert Sell III; two brothers, Raymond (Beverly) Bernotas of Mansfield, OH, Ronald (Rita) Bernotas of Wayne, PA and; one sister, Mary Helen (Mark Cash) Bernotas of Chagrin, OH. Rev. Robert is also survived by one nephew, Matthew Bernotas of Columbus, OH.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Bernotas.
Friends may call from 2-5 PM (CDT) Monday, August 28, 2023 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. A memorial mass and inurnment will be held at a later date.
