Richard B. (Dick) Humphrey, 82, Wolcott, IN, formerly of Chalmers, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, at 4:50 pm.
Dick was born July 7, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois to the late Howard S. and Virginia N. (Cate) Humphrey. He attended high school in Quincy until leaving early to join the United States Marine Corp., where he was later honorably discharged.
As chance would have it, Richard met the love of his life, Anna M. Willner, at Sandy’s Drive-In during the fall of 1959 and they were married just 3 months’ later; a marriage that would last 63 wonderful years. The two were married on January 16, 1960, at the Baptist Church in Quincy, IL; she survives.
Richard was a good and caring man; he loved his wife and children with all his heart and would call them weekly just to say I love you. A people person, Richard loved talking to people and getting to know them.
Mr. Humphrey was a longtime member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds, where he enjoyed using his great voice to sing in the church choir.
Richard retired from Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette after 25 years with the company. Prior to that, he was a shoe store manager, moving to Lafayette to work for Kenny’s Shoes.
Richard was an avid fisherman, a diehard Cubbies fan, a golfer and a huge fan of NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon and Indy Car, especially A.J. Foyt. Richard loved Purdue sports, especially basketball, and was a fan to the end. He also enjoyed playing dice with his children for hours at a time. He will be missed dearly by us all.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Humphrey, his 5 children, Marlon Humphrey, Kelly Humphrey, Dawn Humphrey, Berri Humphrey, and Jerri Hiner his 9 grandchildren, Alyssa Nester, John Purvis, Kirsten Pritchett, Lindsey Hiner, Dalton and Emily Humphrey, Logan Hiner, Sheldon and Shelby Humphrey plus 6 great grandchildren, Brennin Buford, Wyatt Pritchett, Braylee Nester, Ryder Nester, Aurora Pritchett and Nevaeh Nester
