Bob's Obituary
Robert L Christopher 90, of Indianapolis died Thursday, January 15, 2026 at his home. He had been in poor health since May, 2025.
He was surrounded by immediate family upon his death and went peacefully.
He was born on August 31, 1935 in Wolcott, IN to the late John W and Anna (Mellon) Christopher.
He was a 1953 graduate of Wolcott High School, after completing grades 1 - 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Remington, IN. He was an Army veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne. He was very proud of this accomplishment of his service.
On January 10, 1968, he married Susan Swartz in Indianapolis and she survives.
He was a devoted husband and father.
The love he and Susan professed for one another was genuine and was truly made in heaven.
Bob was a man of deep faith and was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church-Eagle Creek. He loved his God and his church family. For several years, he was honored to be head usher. He was always available to volunteer anytime he was needed and occasionally, he was so adamant, a position/task would be made for his participation.
Bob (lovingly known as Cob) by all who grew up with him, worked as Controller for Gannett Newspapers; beginning in Lafayette, IN; moving to Pensacola, FL; Cherry Hill,New Jersey and ending in Centreville, VA.
Upon retirement, Bob and Susan returned to their roots in Indianapolis to help care for her parents, who are now both deceased. For several years, Bob owned a pontoon boat and had it docked at Rick’s Boatyard on Eagle Creek Reservoir. He was at his happiest while taking friends and family cruising on the boat. Many happy memories and stories remained with him to the end.
Surviving is their daughter Kelly Jackson, her husband Ryan and two grandchildren, Anna and Carter. They reside in Midlothian, VA, and thus visiting/ trips to see them we’re not as often made as would have been preferred.
Also surviving is a special cousin, Jenny Young, who is especially loved and a blessing to both Bob and Susan. She has been there from day one since Susan called and said “Bob has been admitted” on the day after Mother’s Day 2025, until she heard the words” He has passed” on Jan 15, 2026. Also surviving is a Brother-in-law Jack Swartz (wife Vickie) of Knoxville, TN. And several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, besides his parents are a brother, Roy, and his spouse; and a sister Martha Viney and her spouse.
By decedent’s request, there is no service.
