Stephen A. Herget

Stephen A. “Steve” Herget, 75, of Brookston, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. He was born July 3, 1948 in Crawfordsville, IN to the late Herbert T. and Bonnie K. (McMurry) Herget. Steve was a 1968 graduate of Frontier High School. 

He married the love of his life, Debra Lucas on June 20, 1969 in St. Jospeh Catholic Church of Reynolds. Steve and Deb had been married 54 years. 

Steve was employed with Co-Alliance formerly known as White County Farm Bureau Co-Op for 45 years. While at Co-Alliance, Steve drove a truck and operated grain elevators. He retired in 2013. 

Steve had several hobbies including carpentry, classic cars, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a generous heart, opening his home to many friends and family members over the years. Steve will be greatly missed by all. 

Surviving along with his wife, Debra, are two sisters, Angie Hazelton of West Lafayette and Rosemary Howard of Ft. Wayne; sister-in-law, Debbie Herget of Brookston. Nieces and nephews, Kenny (Deb) Lucas, Terry (Jamie) Lucas, Sara (Pat) McMullan, Angie (Bobby) Hochstetler, Toni (Danny) Earl, Shannon (Rich) Leming, Julie (Matt) Fickle, Jill (Scott) Mikels, and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins survive him. 

Preceding him in death along with his parents is an infant daughter, Debra K. Herget; brothers, John “Ted” Herget, Joe Herget, Robert Herget, and Greg Herget. Steve is also preceded in death by a nephew, Jeff Herget. 

Friends may call from 4-7 PM (EDT) Monday, July 10, 2023 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral Service 11:00 AM (EDT) Tuesday, July 11, 2023 also at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in Brookston Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Stephen’s name to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, or simply plant a tree in memory of Steve.
