Stephen "Steve" Lee Batta

Stephen Lee “Steve” Batta,72, of Reynolds, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 11, 2025. Born on February 9, 1953, to the late Lawrence and Janette (McCain) Batta, Steve was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.

Steve graduated from Central Catholic High School and went on to have a successful career, owning and operating Steve’s Overhead Doors in Lafayette and Batta’s Home Improvement in Monticello. He also worked at Ace Hardware in Monticello and retired from Lowe’s in Lafayette. Steve was known for his love of fishing, boating, and metal detecting.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Tammira “Tammy” Mertens, whom he married on August 23, 2003, in Reynolds, Indiana. Steve leaves behind three children: Stephen Batta (wife, Tamara) of Illinois, Matthew Batta of Lafayette, and Kyle Batta (wife, Kelly) of Crawfordsville. He is also survived by his siblings: Larry Batta, Marilyn King (husband, Bob), Teresa Riehle (husband, John), Jeff Batta (wife, Jan), and Doug Batta, all of Lafayette. Steve was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren and cherished by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 12:00pm until the time of services celebrating Steve’s life at 2:00pm at the Roscka Roth & Clapper Funeral Home in Monticello. Interment will follow at Hughes Cemetery in Monticello.
