Steven A. Carlile, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 with his loving family by his side. Born on September 23, 1956 to James and Mona (Sorenson) Carlile, Steve graduated from Benton Central High School in 1975. He married the love of his life, Julia (Griswold) Gordon, on November 20, 1995, in LaPorte, Indiana. Together, they shared a life filled with joy and adventure.
Steve was a retired truck driver who cherished the time spent on the road with his wife, children, and grandchildren by his side. He found joy in helping his nephew Brad on the farm and relaxing in his favorite recliner watching TV. Steve was known affectionately to many of his friends as Sammy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Julia Carlile, and his children: Thomas Carlile (Wendy), Stephanie Smith (Scott), Christopher Carlile (Amber), Nicholas Carlile, Chad Carlile (Candace), Carrie Gordon, Jon Gordon, Jeremy Gordon (Catherine), and Lisa Casey. He was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Steve is also survived by his sister, Janet Harman, and brothers, David Carlile (Becky), Paul Carlile (Kris), and Timothy Carlile (Angie); and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Carlile, his nephew Troy Harman, his grandson Trevor, and his great-grandson Shawn Casey.
A memorial for Steve will be held in the Spring.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to IU Hospice and his dedicated caregivers, Samantha, Dawn, and Seth, for their compassionate care.
