Sylvia's Obituary

Sylvia M. Lear, 83, of Monon, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her son’s home surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born August 10, 1940, in Francesville, Indiana to the late Ralph and Edith (Burnau) Lowe.  Sylvia was a 1958 graduate of Monon High School.

Sylvia married the love of her life, Max F. Lear, on September 27, 1958, at the Monon United Methodist Church; a love affair that would last 56 years until his passing on June 25, 2015.

Sylvia was a wonderful, loving and supportive wife and mother.  She always enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her kids 4H and North White sporting events.  For 40 years, Sylvia and Max took fishing trips to Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  Sylvia would often do crossword puzzles in the boat while Max fished with the kids.  In 2015, after Max’s passing, the entire family made one last trip to honor dad.  Many great memories were made fishing in Grand Rapids.  Sylvia and Max also enjoyed Imperial Travel bus tours around the country, including the Grand Canyon.  Sylvia cherished her family, especially time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Scot Lear (Cindy Campbell), Sherry Ward (Mark) and Rusty Lear (Tammy) all of Monon and Robin Lear (Toni) of Lafayette; her grandchildren, Nathan, Brandon, Byron, April, Kaleb, Kelbi, Jacob, Jordan and Cierra and 6 great-grandchildren, Eli, Jovi, Jaliyah, Ja'na, Jae and Jeffery.

Sylvia was the last of 10 children; preceding her in death are her 8 sisters, Virginia, Patty, Betty, Mary, Hazel, Linda, Janice and Nancy and a brother, Richard.  Also preceding her in death with her parents and husband is a grandson, Kevin.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon; Pastor Andy Gannon to officiate.  Interment to follow in Bedford Cemetery of Monon.
