Terry Lee Yoder Sr., 80, of Monticello, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, at 10:07 pm at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by his loving family.
Terry was born on Tax Day, April 15, 1945, in Breman, Indiana to the late Elmer and Fern Yoder.
He attended Wakarusa High School, then continued his education at IU South Bend and Manchester College, where he earned a degree in Ministry. Terry was later drafted into the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.
Terry loved life and lived it fully. He enjoyed spending time on Lake Freeman, drinking Miller Lite, fishing, gambling, bowling, and soaking up time with friends and family. He had a soft spot for animals and could never turn away a stray cat-befriending more than 15 over the last few years.
You could often find Terry socializing at the The American Legion, American Veterans, The VFW, or Down the Street Pub. On Sunday mornings, he was a faithful presence at the Church of God in Chalmers. Terry never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back, expecting nothing in return. He loved cooking and baking for anyone wanting to eat, was an avid fan of Purdue basketball and the Chicago Bears, and could never resist a good deal-often spending late nights glued to QVC .
Terry spent his final days surrounded by family and was showered with love from those near and far who cared deeply for him.
Terry is survived by his sister, Sally Yoder Stutzman; children, Terry Lee Yoder Jr. and Katherine Winkler; his grandchildren, Jourdyn Yoder, Michelle Stankard O'neil, Zackery Wells, Patrick McFadden and Sam McFadden; and his great grandchildren Lainey Wells and Thomas O'neil.
Along with Terry's parents, he is preceded in death by, his brother, Don Yoder and sister, Peggy Yoder Bowers.
In accordance with Terry’s wishes, he will be cremated.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 2:00 pm, at the Chalmers Community Church in Chalmers, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, guests are invited to bring a fishing lure to add to a memorial that will be displayed at his lake house in his memory.
