Trystin's Obituary

Trystin Alan Murray, 31, of Monticello, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2026, in Monticello, Indiana.

Born on May 31, 1995, in Lafayette, Indiana, Tristan was the beloved son of Brant Murray and Melissa Sayler Mace. He attended Twin Lakes High School and was a proud member of the AMVETS Post 91 in Monticello.

Trystin worked as a fiber optic lineman. He wasn’t afraid of hard labor or long days, he genuinely enjoyed what he did. He loved his high-visibility shirts.

It was nearly impossible to stay sad around Trystin. He had a gift for making people laugh, often with perfectly timed one liner or playful “low blows” that somehow came across as endearing. He loved giving everyone a hard time, and if he teased you, it usually meant you were one of his favorite people.

A true daredevil, Trystin believed life was meant to be lived with both feet on the gas pedal. Whether he was skateboarding, riding ATV’s or finding a way to make everyone around him laugh.

He had a deep appreciation for military service and was especially proud of his aunt and uncle who served in the Marines. He also enjoyed collecting and talking about guns, knives and flashlights. While his favorite color was “clear” he had a special appreciation for anything gold.

Trystin will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. He was the life of every gathering, and someone who reminded those around him not to take life too seriously.

Along with his parents, Melissa Mace and Brant Murray, he is survived by three brothers, Trey Murray of Monticello, Devin Jones of Missouri and Waylon Mace of Missouri; paternal grandparents, Howard “Blackie”  and Alicia Murray of Monticello; maternal grandmother, Jean DeFord of Monticello; niece, Amelia Murray and nephew, Oliver Murray. He also is survived by countless aunts, uncles, cousins and a circle of friends who became family by choice.

He is preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Fred L. Sayler, Sr.

Family and friends are invited to come share stories, laughter, and memories as we celebrate Trystin’s incredible life.
