William R. “Bill” Begley, 66, of Monticello, Indiana was called home on October 7, 2021 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Bill was born on November 20, 1954 in New Haven, CT to the late John and Jean Begley. The family moved to Wolcott, IN when he was nine years old. He was a 1972 graduate of Tri-County High School. He attended Purdue University and later passed down his love for the Boilermakers to his children and grandchildren. He married Patricia Stortz on January 6, 1978; they later divorced.
Bill had a passion to serve and care for others with a huge servant’s heart. He worked in the insurance business for over 20 years but you would most likely find him supporting his two children at games from the stands or behind the microphone. He was heavily involved in the community in Brookston. He enjoyed his time fishing and hunting where he opened his door to anyone that would want to tag along.
The last several years he spent his time ensuring others with mobility issues were able to continue pursuing their passions as he worked for Life Essentials.
Dad was especially proud of his five grandchildren who he loved more than anything and were responsible for his huge smile each day.
He is survived by his two children, Lindsay Roberts (Charles) of Lafayette and Seth Begley (Sarah) of Brookston; his significant other, Kathryn Landis of Monticello; two brothers, Joseph Begley (Diane) and John Begley (Jeni) of Delphi and his grandchildren, Reagan, Lane and Reid Roberts and Campbell and Callen Begley. Also surviving are many extended family members in Indiana, Kentucky, Connecticut, Ohio, and Alabama.
Preceding him in death with his parents is a sister, Cecilia.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021 also at the funeral home; his friend, Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Reynolds.
