William's Obituary

U.S. Veteran

William B. Sulfridge, 87, of Battle Ground, Indiana passed away at 4:24 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Bill was born October 6, 1937, in Tazewell, Tennessee to the late Lennie and Hannah (Hurst) Sulfridge.  He earned his GED from Chalmers High School.  While in high school, Bill was proud to have tried out as a pitcher for a minor league baseball team.

Bill married the love of his life, Janice G. Wall, on October 7, 1957, at the courthouse in Lafayette, Georgia after eloping.  From that day forward, the couple were inseparable, raising eight children in a home full of love and laughter.  Their wonderful marriage would last for 67 years.

Bill worked for over 30 years in maintenance at Lafayette Home Hospital, eventually becoming the department supervisor, retiring in 2002.

He was a faithful member of Palestine Christian Church where he played guitar and sang with his wife Janice and their church friends.  Bill enjoyed volunteering at the church and serving in any capacity needed.  He had a great personality, loved to tell jokes and stories and was compassionate and approachable to everyone.

Bill loved spending time with family, especially at the couple’s lake house on the Tippecanoe River.  July 4th with family and friends was always a highlight on the Tippy, especially the big family fireworks show.  Bill was a wonderful musician who spent many a night with his band, the Buddy’s Four, practicing at the house and playing shows.  He enjoyed playing sports with his family and rooting on the Indiana Hoosiers, especially through the Bobby Knight years.  Bill loved being outdoors enjoying boating and fishing on the Tippy and hunting when he was younger.

Surviving with his wife, Janice, are their children, William Sulfridge Jr. (wife: Susan) of Noblesville, Rhonda Summers of Delphi, Terri Bisher (husband: Mike) of West Lafayette, Brian Sulfridge (wife: Gail) of Brookston, Mark Sulfridge (wife: Mary) of Melrose, Florida, Vickie Nunnally (husband: Jeff) of Delphi, Angi Key (husband: Tony) of Logansport and Troy Sulfridge (wife: Shilo) of Williamsport, Virginia and three sisters, Maimie Shank of Monticello, Janet Spark of Richmond, Virginia and Lisa Bonnell also of Richmond, Virginia.  Bill loved spending time with his 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death with his parents is a sister, Kathleen Neal.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12 p.m. (noon) Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston; Pastor Allan Maximo to officiate.  Interment to follow in Battle Ground Cemetery.
