Wilma K. Scruggs

Wilma K. (Hague) Scruggs, 98, of Brookston, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at her home.

  She was born February 19, 1923 in Jasper County to the late Charles and Blanche (Elston) Hague and was a 1941 graduate of Brookston High School.

  Her marriage of 52 years was to Roy Scruggs on July 25, 1942; he preceded her in death on February 12, 1995.

  Wilma retired from Purdue University in 1987 after 10 years as custodian at the Grad House.

  Mrs. Scruggs was a longtime member of the Brookston Federated Church.

  Wilma was the definition of a homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and was known for her delicious homemade pies.  She loved to travel throughout the United States with her husband Roy.  Wilma also enjoyed eating out, especially J&J Roadhouse in Brookston.

  Surviving is her daughter, Sharon Voss of Texas City, TX; two sons, Glenn Scruggs (wife: Dayna) of Brookston and Bruce Scruggs (wife: Tammy) of Huntsville, TX.  Wilma loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Brenda, Cinda, Bryan, Brett, Jay, Kathy, Jill and Justin and her numerous great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her three special friends, Betty, Denise and Ruby.

  Preceding her in death with her parents and husband Roy is a son, Vernon Scruggs; 4 brothers and a sister.

  Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. (EST) Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston.  Graveside funeral services to be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2021 at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Lafayette.

  Memorials may be made in her name to the Brookston Federated Church.
