I was born April 14, 1971 in Lafayette to Jim & Nancy Clapper. I have a twin brother Jeff and a younger sister Kelley.
Growing up I went to St. James Lutheran Church School and Klondike Elementary for grade school then Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1990. Afterwards, I attended Purdue University for several years before leaving to take up my calling to be a Funeral Director. I graduated from Mid-America College of Funeral Service with Honors at the very top of my class.
I began my funeral service career working for Feeney-Hornak Mortuaries in Indianapolis while my wife to be, Brenda Mithoefer, was in law school at Indiana University at Indianapolis. Upon completion she accepted a job back in Lafayette, where she still works and is currently a partner, Ball Law Firm. I continued to work in Indianapolis and was fortunate to see all aspects of the business.
Several years later an opportunity to stop commuting to Indianapolis from Lafayette came along and I joined the staff at the "old" Landis-Loy Funeral Home in Lafayette and it became Richards-Loy & Clapper Funeral Home (9th & Columbia).
About five years later the Lord blessed our family and the Hartzlers came into our lives. We were fortunate enough to be chosen by Larry & Norine to be their successors and the Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home was realized July 1, 2003.
More blessings followed and Bob & Linda Foster of the Foster Funeral Home in Wolcott asked us to take over April of 2005. The funeral home is now Foster-Clapper.
In 2007 we felt the call of the Lord to do something we had not anticipated by building a new funeral home from scratch in the town of Monon. The former funeral home owner in their town had some issues and was forced to close leaving many people with nowhere to turn. In January of 2008 the Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon became a reality.
After a several year friendship with Steve Stitz, owner with his wife of the Stitz Funeral Homes in Remington and Kentland, we have decided that teaming up to serve families from Brookston to the Illinois border was in our towns best interest. On December 21, 2009 our vision for the future was realized and the Stitz-Clapper Funeral Homes became reality. We feel so blessed to have them as friends and again recognize the blessings God puts in our paths.
Today we are fortunate enough to count many people from all of the towns we serve as good friends and are proud to be a part of the White, Jasper and Newton Counties family. We have been very successful and are quick to give that credit to God.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your family. We will do everything possible to earn your trust!
