Dorothy Elizabeth Mathew

March 3, 1925 - February 9, 2018

Dorothy Elizabeth Mathew, 92, died February 9, 2018, at Brownsburg Meadows Healthcare in Brownsburg, IN.

Dorothy was born into the family of the late Rosa and George Heinzelman in Wolcott, Indiana on March 3, 1925. She graduated from Wolcott High School in 1943 and then worked in Chicago as an office assistant until she married Orville Mathew on June 7, 1947.

Dorothy worked alongside Orville on the farm while raising three children. She and Orville also took great pride in showing their nieces and nephews from the big city (Chicago) the workings of farm life when they would arrive for extended summer holidays from school.

Her children and grandchildren gave her great joy throughout her long and productive life. She will be sadly missed by all whose life she touched with her generosity, kindness and great sense of humor.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Robert) Culler, Kathleen (Roger) Pierson, son-in-law Kevin Rosenbaum; her grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Culler, Hannah (Nathan Sedgewick) Pierson, Alexander (Leanne) Pierson; and, great-grandchildren Laura and Anna Culler, Emmory Sedgewick and Calder and Audrey Pierson. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Heinzelman of Wolcott, IN; brothers-in-law Philip (Connie) Mathew of Chalmers, IN; Vernon (Sharon) Mathew of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters-in-law Alice Shillis of Nashville, TN; Mable Hendryx of Brookston, IN; Grace (Robert) Oilar of Monticello, IN; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives; and many dear friends and neighbors.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Orville on January 16, 2017 after 69 years of marriage; her beloved son, William Joseph Mathew; sisters Margaret Muenzenmay, Marie Bauer, Ida Arlt; brothers John Heinzelman and Alva Heinzelman.

The family wishes to thank Penny Jackson, Lou and Keith Blanchette for their love, devotion and care toward Dorothy and Orville during their later years on the farm.   Their assistance afforded them the opportunity to remain on the farm as long as possible.

We also want to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks the staff at Brownsburg Meadows Healthcare & Assisted Living, as well as the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care. They truly became a part of our family.
