Ralph “Larry” Darling Jr., 70, of Brookston, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home.
He was born January 10, 1948 in Lafayette to the late Ralph L. Darling Sr. and Rosemary (Cornell) Lawson. Larry attended Lafayette Jefferson High School and earned his GED from the United States Army. He served with distinction.
His marriage was to Janie Irwin on February 24, 1995 in Lafayette; she survives. Janie was truly Larry’s best friend, partner and soulmate. They worked together, played together, shopped together and truly enjoyed life.
Larry was a self-employed journeyman Sign Painter for 50 plus years; a true artist by trade. More than that, Larry was a great example of how to be a Christian. He showed his faith by helping others who were down on their luck, even inviting them into his home until they were able to get back on their feet. He believed in being Saved and the message of Salvation through Jesus Christ. He was slow to anger and never judgmental.
He enjoyed attending flea markets and auctions and reading. Spending time with family was the most important thing to Larry.
Surviving with his wife Janie are his sons, Andy Darling (wife: Janelle) of Lafayette and Ty Anderson of Monticello and his two sisters, Earlena “Rose” Van Pelt (husband: Jerry) and Darlene Scheel (husband: Rick). Larry loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home (101 West 4th St. Brookston). Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018 also at the funeral home; Pastor Jeff Mikels to officiate. Interment with military rites to occur Monday, February 12, 2018 at Brookston IOOF Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Ronald McDonald House.
