Kathryn L. Galey, 88, of Brookston, passed away peacefully at 10:05 AM, July 29, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare of Delphi. She was born January 8, 1929 at her grandparents home in Scott County, IN to the late Ernest L. and Ada G. (McClain) Whiteman.

Kathryn graduated from Hammond High School in 1946, she later attended Purdue University’s special program for women “Liberal Science for Women”. She continued through her sophomore year until her mother’s illness required her to stay home. Kathryn met her future husband, Stanton K. Galey at Purdue and the married on August 13, 1949. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1996.

As a junior and senior at Hammond High, she worked summers at NIPSCO microfilming old paper records. Later she worked for Illinois Bell Telephone in the Hammond Engineering Office. After marriage she worked at Purdue in the ROTC office. In later years, she worked at the Purdue Athletic ticket office for Joe Dienhart, and still later worked in the special library. She worked at Ramada Inn as secretary, then helped to open Salem Courthouse Apartments as resident manager and also managed Peppermill Apartments. Later on after moving to Florida, she opened an apartment complex in Kississimee, FL, returned to Indianapolis to help open Eagle Creek Retirement, moved back to Florida and worked 3 years for Centrust Bank processing mortgage loans. After that she worked at the Chicago Dental Society for 5 years, and later as secretary for Family Pantry in Brookston, IN.

Kathy is survived by 2 daughters, Jan (Kenny) Robertson of Battle Ground, and Lori (Mike) Galey Fultz of Clearwater, FL; 6 grandchildren, Tim (Amy) Roberts of Whitestown, IN, Dr. Heidi Roberts of Gulfport, FL, Ryan Fultz of Noblesville, Megan Fultz Leon of Clearwater, FL, Josh (Roxanne) Robertson of Reynolds, and Kasey (Kent) Robertson Zimpfer of Battle Ground. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren and a nephew, Randy (Ida) Grove of Griffith, IN.

Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband is a sister, Virginia Whiteman Grove.

Kathryn was a member of the Christian Science Society, formerly First Church of Christ Science, West Lafayette, Lafayette, since 1958. She was also a member of the DAR.

Friends may call from 11 AM until the time of Funeral Service 1 PM, Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Barbara Allison to officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in New Providence Church Cemetery of Scott County, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn’s name to the Christian Science Society.
