Herbert Schmidt, age 91, passed away March 09, 2017 at his home in Niles, Michigan.

 Herbert Schmidt is survived by 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren along with two brothers and a sister.  He was preceded in death by Joan his wife of 64 years and two sons.

 He was a highly decorated Army veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. During his military service he received three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

  He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, especially Bluebirds, wildlife in his backyard and ponds, fishing in the Brandywine Creek, and gardening. 

Friends may call from 11 AM (EST) until the time of Funeral Service 12 (noon) Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Interment to follow in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.
