Dorothy Jean Harner

May 25, 1940 - July 24, 2016

Dorothy Jean Harner, 76, of Brookston passed away at 1:37 p.m. on July 24, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Nazareth, PA after a 16 month battle with lymphoma. She was born on May 25, 1940 at her family’s home in Benton County, Indiana to the late Thomas Roy and Ruth Annis (Moon) Trueblood. On August 1, 1964, Jean married Donald E. Harner in Brookston. He passed away on October 26, 1987.

Jean attended Wadena School through 8th grade and then moved to Round Grove where she graduated from Wolcott High School.

Jean worked at Thayer Ribbon Factory and St. Elizabeth Hospital. After marrying, Jean farmed with her husband and cared for their three children. Later, Jean worked at Jessup Paper Box in Brookston and retired from Warren Industries in Lafayette.

Jean’s family attended Bethany Chapel in Benton County, and after marriage she became a member of Badger Grove Community Baptist Church in Brookston. Jean was also a retired member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

Surviving is a daughter, Penny J. White (husband – Randy) of Nazareth, PA and a son, Edward J. Harner (wife- Bellamy), of Brookston; a brother, Dale Trueblood (wife- Paula) of Reynolds; a sister, Doris Fields (husband – Herb) of Fowler; and a half-sister, Guinivere Lacey of Roachdale. Also surviving are four grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, her son, Thomas A. Harner on May 22, 1994, and her half-brother, Harold W. Trueblood of Ambia on February 5, 2013.

Jean’s greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She was Grandma Jeannie to Grace and Hope White of Nazareth, PA and Cierra and Chase Harner of Brookston. Jean loved attending their sporting and school events and playing a large role in their lives. She was also Grandma Jeannie to a special family in her life; Phil, Lisa, and Colton Strickler and Kenzie Brown.

Jean enjoyed visiting with her family, friends, neighbors, and her Moon and Trueblood cousins whether it was in person, via phone calls, cards, or emails. She enjoyed doing the daily cryptograms and Sudoku puzzles in the Journal and Courier newspaper and watching Purdue basketball and football. She also liked putting together large jigsaw puzzles when she couldn’t be outside enjoying the weather, her porch, and her yard.
