Jean C. (Schilling) Roberts Rattay, 76, of Kentland, passed away at 2:17 AM, February 22, 2016 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born November 16, 1939 in Benton County, IN to the late Cletus and Gladys (Wanstrath) Schilling. She attended Earl Park High School and later earned a degree from Purdue University.

Her first marriage was to Kenneth Roberts in September of 1955. She later married Ulrich Rattay who preceded her in death on October 19, 2013.

Jean started Vealer USA National Magazine from scratch where she was the writer, publisher, and advertiser all while raising veal calves on the family farm. In her later years she became the author of 4 published books and various poems. She was a member of the Kentland Jr. Woman’s Club.

Jean enjoyed needlepoint, quilting, knitting, genealogy, writing, and traveling; most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Clifford (Suetta) Roberts of Kentland, Brenda Roberts Griffin of Chicago, IL; step-daughter, Bonnie Forester of Michigan; siblings, Ann (Dwayne) Rhoades of Goodland, IN,  Kay (David) Jones of Muncie, IN, Jill (Richard) Brock of Petersburg, KY, and Bill Schilling of Oregon.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Kayla (Michael) Rudy, Lauren and Curt Roberts, Jason Rose, Bryan Rose, and Lance Cpl Tyler Griffin USMC; Great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Connor, Ethinn, Brinlee.

Preceding her in death along with her parents and spouses is a son, Allen Lee Roberts.

Friends may call from 4-8 PM (CST) Friday, February 26, 2016 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Funeral service 10 AM (CST) Saturday, February 27, 2016 also at the Funeral Home. Pastor Ben Crostreet of Brook First Christian Church to officiate. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery of Kentland.
