Arlene Marie Wood, 90, of Fowler, IN died at 11:10 pm on December 26th at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Lafayette, IN.

 

She was born March 30, 1925 in Wolcott, IN to the late Samuel Furrer and Clara Frieden.

She graduated from Wolcott High School in 1943.

 

Her marriage was to Winsford W. Wood on February 1, 1947 in Remington, IN. Winsford survives. Arlene grew up in the Wolcott area, and lived in the Goodland area and later in the Fowler area.

 

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Lafayette, IN.

 

Arlene worked at Elgin Watch Factory in Elgin, IL, and then at Bryan’s Manufacturing in Monticello, then she worked several years with her husband farming and later worked 19 years as a nurse’s aide at George Ade Memorial Hospital Brook, IN. Retiring in 1983 to babysit her granddaughters.

 

She enjoyed riding horses and working with her daughters in 4-H Horse and Pony.  She raised sheep, pygmy goats, ponies and enjoyed her two llamas. She also loved her dogs Holly and Molly. She was very much an animal lover.

 

She is survived by her husband, Winsford, of 68 years, daughters Sheryl (Floyd) Richert of Fowler, Patti (Tom) Baugues of Lafayette, granddaughters Lisa Crain of Fowler, Ashlee (Joshua) Tucker, great-grandson Zayden Tucker of Lafayette and sister Verna Furrer of Fowler. Preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Clara Furrer and brother John Furrer.

 

Friends may call from 4 pm - 8 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston, IN.

Funeral services 2 pm on Friday, January 1, 2016 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston, IN. Visitation prior to funeral from 1 pm – 2 pm. Interment to follow in Fowler Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hoosier Hooves and Hounds and Natalie’s Second Chance Dog Shelter.
