Virgil W. Van Voorst, 83, of Brookston, died at 6:05 am, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Whispering Pines nursing home of Monticello. He was born December 11, 1931 in White County to the late Ernest and Edna (Nalley) Van Voorst. Virgil graduated from Chalmers High School. His marriage was to Shelby J. Hipes on October 25, 1957 in Reynolds, IN. She survives. Virgil was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church. He farmed for several years in White County and enjoyed road farming. He also was a member of the Lafayette Spinners Wheelchair basketball league. Along with his wife, Virgil is survived by a son, Randy Van Voorst of Spokane, WA; daughter, Rita Van Voorst of Millersburg, IN; and a sister, Ruth Martin of Reynolds. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and William Van Voorst; and a sister, Wilma Geisler.
