Helen R. Barrett Grubor, 93, of Brookston, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. She was born October 15, 1921 in French Lick, IN to the late Frank & Lillian (Qualkinbush) Kellams. Her family moved to Orleans, Indiana in 1932 and she graduated from Orleans High School in 1938. Her marriage was to Russell Barrett of Brookston, IN on June 14, 1938. He preceded her in death in August of 1985. She later married Steve Grubor in 1989 and he preceded her in death in 1991. Helen was a homemaker and helped on the family farm while the kids were growing up. She later worked at the Indiana Veterans Home for 16 years as a QMA and retired in 1995. She is a member of the Brookston Church of Christ. Helen was known for her chicken & noodles, strawberry and custard pies and loved watching Purdue Sports, the Indiana Pacers and Crocheting. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Harner (husband: Dick) of Monticello, Ruth Ann Weiderhaft (husband: Rick) of Lafayette; a son, Jim Barrett (wife: Pam) of Remington and a sister, Mary Grein of Seymour, IN. Helen loved spending time with her family, especially her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death with her parents and husbands is a son, Jack Barrett; a daughter, Norma Sue Fenner Haines; a son-in-law, Larry Haines and a brother, Earl Lee Kellams. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral at 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, January 30, 2015 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Brookston IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Kidney Association.
