Ulrich Rattay died on Saturday, October 19, 2013, in his home in Merrillville, Indiana, after a long illness. He retired from Inland Steel/ArcelorMittal in East Chicago, Indiana, in September where he had worked for 46 years and was a member of United Steelworkers Union #1010. Rich was born in Frankfort, Germany, January 15, 1948 and moved with his parents to Hammond, Indiana when he was two years old. He is survived by his wife, Jean Schilling Roberts Rattay and one daughter, Bonnie (Jeff) Forester of Clinton Twp, Michigan, and three grandchildren, Jonathan, David and Jenna Forester and two step-children, Clifford Roberts (Suetta) of Kentland, and Brenda Roberts Griffin of Osceola, Arkansas and six step-grandchildren, Kayla Roberts of San Diego, California, Lauren and Curt Roberts of Lafayette, Indiana, Jason Rose of Benton County, Indiana, Bryan Rose ( Shawn) of Osceola, Arkansas, and Lance Cpl Tyler Griffin, USMC, currently stationed in California. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Rose of Rensselaer, Indiana, and Connor and Ethinn Rose of Osceola, Arkansas. Friends may call from 4-7 pm (CDT), Monday, October 21, 2013 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home in Kentland. Funeral service there at 10 am (CDT), Tuesday, October 22, 2013 with Pastor Jeff Forester officiating. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Kentland.
