John Edward Shumard, 47, of Battle Ground, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1966 in Lafayette to Arthur and Esther (McNeeley) Shumard. He graduated from Harrison High School in 1985. He worked in construction and later worked in trucking. John was an avid Colts football and NASCAR fan, and his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart. He also enjoyed working on and rebuilding cars. Surviving with his parents Arthur and Esther Shumard of Battle Ground is a daughter; Brittany Crumly-Shumard of Battle Ground, a sister, Meredith Supple (husband: Jacob) of Beech Grove and a brother, Michael Shumard (wife: Kathy) of West Lafayette. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Crossroads Christian Church (6435 State Road 43 North, West Lafayette) with Pastor Michael J. Duff officiating. Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or to a charity of choice.
