Stephen VanVoorst, 65, a lifelong White County resident, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 in South BendMemorial Hospital as a result of injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. He was born May 22, 1947 in Lafayette, Indiana to King VanVoorst and the late Betty (Million) VanVoorst and attended Wolcott Schools. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army training new recruits during the Vietnam War. His marriage was to Sherry Morris on October 2, 1965 in St. Joseph Catholic Church of Reynolds. She survives. Steve worked the last 17 years at Bartlett Ford in the service department, part of the time as shop foreman. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was an avid deer hunter. His smile and infectious personality drew others to him and made him a friend to many. Surviving with his wife is his son, Chopper VanVoorst (wife: Angie) of Reynolds; a daughter, Christine Lang of Monticello; two brothers, Ron VanVoorst of Elkhart and Charles VanVoorst (wife: Cheryl) of Reynolds and a sister, Becky Price (husband: Scot) of Battle Ground. Steve loved spending time with his family and adored his two granddaughters, NeVaeh and Emma. Preceding him in death with his mother is a sister, Debbie Luplow. A rosary service will be held at 3:45 p.m. with visitation to follow from 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2012 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds; Fr. Fintan Cummings to officiate. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Steve VanVoorst Memorial Fund to be use for good in his name.
