Louise Shelmon, 91, of Remington, died at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at her son's home in Rensselaer. She was born June 5, 1921 in Remington to the late Ward and Thelma (Hensler) Lewis. She graduated from Remington High School in 1939. After high school, she graduated from Lafayette Beauty Academy. Her marriage was to Darrel Shelmon on June 6, 1953 in Remington. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2004. Louise was a member of Remington First Christian Church, and worked as a beauty operator for 50 years. She never went anywhere without her hair and make-up done. She was a caretaker to several, a sports enthusiast and a Purdue fan. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and taking care of her dogs, Gizmo and Gidget, which included taking them on car rides and cooking breakfast for them. Surviving is a son, Donald Shelmon (wife: Traci) of Rensselaer and two grandchildren, Christopher and Brittany Shelmon, whom she loved dearly. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. (EDT) until the time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Remington First Christian Church with Rev. Les Beardem officiating. Interment to follow at Remington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Remington First Christian Church.
