Edmond J. Burke, 94, of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Wolcott, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in White Oaks Health Campus of Monticello. He had been in failing health for the last year or so. He was born March 18, 1918 in Wolcott, Indiana to the late Edmond W. and Mable C. (Boitet) Burke. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school and was a graduate of Wolcott High School. His first marriage was to Vivian Mailloux in June of 1941 and she preceded him in death in October of 1959. He later married Elizabeth A. Kelley on March 8, 1969 in Lafayette at St. Mary's Cathedral and she preceded him in death on February 1, 2011. Mr. Burke was a lifelong farmer of grain and livestock. In retirement he and his wife moved to Ft. Myers for the last 25 years. Ed was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Remington and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling and golfing. Surviving are two children, Wayne F. Burke (wife: Margaret A.) of Purcellville, Virginia and Karen E. Ward of Chalmers and two sisters. Ed loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Kelly Burke (wife: Deborah), Pam Brown (husband: Ron) and Shelly Stinnett (husband: Jim) and his great-grandchildren, Kyle, Amanda, Brodie, Chad, Cody and Brandon. Preceding him in death with his parents and wives is a son, Garry Burke and a brother, Francis J. Burke. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Remington; Fr. Thomas Fox to officiate. Interment to follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
