Lorain E. Smith, 88, of Brookston, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Indiana University Health in Lafayette. She was born September 18, 1922 in Shawno, Wisconsin to the late Raymond and Ruth Ferguson Hotchkiss. She graduated from Tangier High School in 1942, and attended business college. Her marriage was to Lawrence Eugene Smith in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1982. Lorain enjoyed gardening, animals, and taking care of her home. Surviving is a daughter, Martha Smith of Lafayette, and a son, Rodger Smith (wife: Lisa) of South Bend. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston in charge of arrangements.
