Ralph Edward Collen, 93, of Kentland, died at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook. He was born March 18, 1917 in Kentland to the late Albert and Essie (Spitler) Collen. He graduated from A J Kent High School in 1935. He served in the United States Air Force from January 22, 1942 to October 22, 1945 during World War II, and served in the European Theatre. His marriage was to Mary Roberts on June 22, 1952, and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2008. Mr. Collen farmed most of his life. He was a member of Covenant Federated Church in Kentland and was a 65 year member of the American Legion Post #23. Surviving are two nieces, Phyllis Bongen (husband: Richard) and Sharon Wilson (husband: Walt) both of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a brother, Perry R. Collen, and a sister, Dorotha Collen. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 11 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, January 8, 2010 at Covenant Federated Church in Kentland with Rev. Wayne Myer and Rev. Marjorie Eggers officiating. Inurnment in Buswell Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Federated Church.
