Take "Bob" L. Braaksma, 84, of Remington, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Monticello Assisted Living and Health Care. He was born on February 23, 1926 in Goodland to the late Charles and Lena Marion Braaksma. He attended Goodland and Remington schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II. His marriage was to Myrna Davison on October 14, 1950. She preceded him in death in February 1974. He then married Doris Schembs in 1982 and she preceded him in death in August 1999. Mr. Braaksma was a member of the First Christian Church of Remington and the American Legion Post 280. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, T P & W and Santa Fe Railroad for 44 years, retiring in the late 1980's. After retirement, he owned and operated a pallet business out of his home until 2008. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, camping, boating, fishing, was an avid garage seller, and fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Purdue University. Surviving are his sons, Robert Braaksma (wife: Dianne) of Monticello and Kevin R. Braaksma (fiancé: Valerie Albertson) of Remington; a brother, William Braaksma (wife: Nancy) of Delphi; and son-in-law, Jim Kudla of Walkerton. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Courtney Kudla-Shade, Kyle D. Braaksma, and Heather M. Braaksma. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Evelyn Kay Kudla, 2 sisters, and a brother. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the 11 a.m. service Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home in Remington. Pastor Mary van Wijk to officiate. Interment to follow in Remington Cemetery.
